Searching for meaning...

I have an obsession. An obsession for finding meaning in every little thing. The plant I gift you for your birthday, the jewellery I wear on a particular day, the art piece I painted. I have to find or create layers of meaning in all of the things. I love things like crystals and birth flowers and astrology because I just enjoy the meanings behind them! And I love a horoscope!

One item in particular that I wanted to share with you is my wedding ring. A piece of jewellery so special (as anyone's wedding ring is!) that I chose because of the multiple layers of meaning it possesses.

I'll start with the metal - In my mind I had always intended to have a plain gold band for my wedding ring just like my Mum's. It was always something I'd never questioned at all. Although my taste changed over the years I still had to have gold to represent my Mum and Dad's marriage.

The next part of the story of my ring is the name and the design. You can see in the photo that it has an unusual shape and it's actually inspired by an elm tree and is called The Elm Wood Ring. At the time we were planning our wedding we had three children (we've since had one more!) and their initials in order are E, L, M totally by chance but so incredibly perfect! Since I love nature too the fact that it is inspired by a tree was an added bonus!

I decided to have the ring customised with three sapphires and this has a few meanings too - firstly the blue sapphire in the middle matches my engagement ring which is an ombre of blue and white sapphires. My husband and my boys also all have blue eyes (except our latest addition who has brown eyes like me! I need to have a new sapphire added or buy a new ring for him!) so I like that it matches their beautiful eyes too. I then had two green sapphires added either side as green is my favourite colour and the three sapphires represented our three boys.

I just love how much this ring represents and that to me it holds the meaning of our life and family together. Told you I was obsessed haha!

And that is a little insight into how much thought goes in to all of the things I create too. My art all holds some meaning, whether that be a place, a person that inspired it, some pieces are of things that are lucky, represent hope, love, peace. And I love that it starts with a meaning or certain inspiration from me, but it then holds a new layer of meaning for you, continuing it's history and it's path as it is passed along.

That's also why I feel that original art and prints from small artists rather than big mass made works are so much more special - fill your home with your story and a piece with history and full of meaning!

I want to share a special mention as well to the jeweller who made my ring - Charlotte Rowenna. Her jewellery is absolutely stunning and I am coveting so many more pieces!!

Which also reminds me, another additional part of my love for this ring is it was handmade in Wales just like my wedding dress! Wales is a very special place that holds a lot of memories for my husband and his family so I love that these also represent a little bit of that too.
