On the first day of Christmas....

I've got a freebie for you! Every year I like to do a bit of an activity advent with my boys, I always find the ones I see online are a little too ambitious for our family and lots of them have dates on them already so instead I made one that can be cut out and used in any order. I also made sure to include a lot of things that are the usual activities we (and you) might do over Christmas anyway. Click the button to download your copy and read below for a few ideas I had to make it a little gentler over this busy month...

A few gentle ways to celebrate throughout advent...

  • So the first most obvious one is to put one activity card in each day and do all of the activities - I've included things like putting up the Christmas tree, writing to Father Christmas etc as those are all things we do anyway and makes it a little easier to manage and it just adds a little extra magic to the activity by having it in the advent calendar.

  • Another way to do it is to pick a few activities and pop maybe 3 cards in each free weekend day that you have and giving your kids (or partner/ friend) a choice between a few activities (you could also do all three if you wanted to!) that then leaves the week days free and relieves a little of the pressure.

  • To make this slightly gentler again, just pick one activity for each weekend day and leave the rest! This is likely going to be what we do this year to give ourselves a bit of a breather in the week and then to make the weekends a little more magical.

  • My final recommendation is to just have chocolates in the calendar up until school holidays (if your children are in school) and then put either one activity in per day or pick a couple of them to give a few options or to do all of them each school holiday day.

I hope you find this helpful - I know how much pressure there is at this time of year to do all of the special magical things we see online but this year I'm not letting it get me! I'm going to pick just the things that are realistic for our family and that mean the most to us and leave the rest.
